Bomb Threat
Bomb threats are rare, but require immediate action of the person receiving the call an escalation to Building Security. Upon receiving a bomb threat, attempt to keep the caller on the line and obtain as much information as possible. Click here for the bomb threat checklist.
If you receive a bomb threat:
- Remain calm
- Try to obtain as much information as possible.
- Notify Building Security at (312) 819-6851
- Building Security will proceed to the area of the incident
- Inspect you own work area, but do not touch or move any suspicious objects.
- Wait for instructions.
- Do not discuss the call with anyone else.
In many cases, the Police will not order an evacuation, unless a suspicious item is found of there is good reason to believe the threat is legitimate. Regardless, follow the directives as provided.
Suspicious Packages or Envelope
If you receive a suspicious package or envelope follow the procedures below:
- DO NOT open any suspicious package r envelope, or shake or empty the contents.
- DO NOT carry the package or envelope, show it to others, or allow others to examine it.
- Get away from the package or envelope, show it to others, or allow others to examine it. This could increase the possibility of future contamination.
- Close the door or section off the area to prevent others from entering.
- Call Building Security at (312) 819-6851
- Call 911, if you believe the suspicious material may be a harmful agent.
- Inform them of the people who were in the room when this package or letter was recognized.
- In you handed or opened the package or envelope, immediately go to the restroom and wash your hands.
- Wait for further instruction from Building Security or Emergency Personnel.
